Serengeti Migration Safari One Week Itinerary

Serengeti Migration Safari One Week Itinerary in Tanzania is designed specifically for visiting Serengeti national park during wildebeest migration where the tour accommodation will be booked according to migration movement.

The Serengeti Migration Safari One Week is one of the best Tanzania safari itineraries for individuals who need to experience nest of Serengeti migration from Southern to Northern Serengeti at Mara river for the migration river crossing.

The migration move month by month and rain patterns determine where migration will be. Just to get you to know about migration below are some information.

There are 2 main migration seasons, though you can go for migration at any time of the year the popular are two.

1: Calving season,

For people with enough time especially photographers arrive in Tanzania from December 20 and stay until the end of February that is long for normal travelers. If you need to see babies then plan to be here between January 29 to February 20, you will see babies being born. For best calving sightings the tour must be located in southern Serengeti (NDUTU PLAINS) which meets Ngorongoro areas. This place is open, seasonal and off-road game drives are allowed to make sightings interesting because you get very close to animals as you see them because you are not limited to follow driving trails.

2: River crossing

You can do this anytime between mid-July to early September on the Tanzania side and August to October on the Kenya side. You can visit northern Serengeti for some days and go to Kenya’s Masai Mara for some days or you can visit one of the countries they all offer fantastic river crossing of migration. Off-road game drives are not allowed in these places like in southern Serengeti.

So if you will do calving you will miss river crossing and likewise, you will not get all as they are not possible in one season.

MOVEMENT OF MIGRATION:

  1. December to February – southern east Serengeti, simply called southern Serengeti (NDUTU)
  2. March to May – a few groups in central, big groups go though the western corridor
  3. June – Crossing Grummet River on the way to north, Lobo areas
  4. July to September – Northern Serengeti, river crossing in Kenya and Tanzania
  5. October – Masai Mara is highly footed by migrating groups
  6. November – depends on rain patterns, the groups move east-side to Serengeti
  7. December – arrivals in southern Serengeti to start their safari again

September is a good month for river crossing and general wildlife viewing in Kenya and Tanzania.
